About
Your American Cancer Society
RESEARCH
The 5-year survival rate has almost tripled since the American Cancer
Society began funding researchers in 1946. More than $2.9 billion
has been invested in research and 38 Nobel Laureates have been funded
by the American Cancer Society.
EDUCATION
The American Cancer Society recently awarded grants totaling nearly
$110,000 for communities in Wisconsin to implement programs that will
enhance delivery of cancer control programs and/or interventions to
reach high-risk populations.
ADVOCACY
Numerous businesses and individuals across the state have joined the
American Cancer Society by signing on to the Wisconsin Children's
Initiative, a statewide campaign to increase the cigarette user fee by
$0.85. This increase would reduce the toll of tobacco in Wisconsin by helping to
keep kids from smoking. The movement proposes to use the proceeds of
the increase to fund a long-term comprehensive tobacco control
program.
CANCER RESOURCE NETWORK
After a cancer diagnosis, patients and their families are full of
questions but sometimes short on answers. The American Cancer
Society's trained cancer experts are available to talk to patients
and caregivers day or night, 365 days a year. They can provide you
with information about your diagnosis, questions to ask your doctor,
treatment information, insurance advice, and lists of resources in
or near your own community, from support groups to free rides to
treatment and free lodging near cancer treatment centers. Call
1-800-ACS-2345 or visit
www.cancer.org, and let us ease your cancer journey.
