| Patient
& Family Services provides resources, information,
guidance, and service to cancer patients, survivors and their
families. Volunteers participate in assistance and support
programs that help people cope and provide them with information,
home-care equipment and transportation to cancer treatment centers. Advocacy strives
to influence public policy regarding cancer and tobacco related issues
at the federal, state and local levels.
As an Advocacy volunteer, participation is simple and involves as
much or as little time as you have to give. One opportunity is to join
the American Cancer Society's Action Network. We'll keep you
informed of upcoming issues and let you know of opportunities to write
a letter, send an e-mail, make a call or attend a meeting. Together we
can apply enough pressure to convince lawmakers that fighting
cancer should be a higher national priority.

Income Development focuses on
developing and continuing diversified income development programs to support the mission
of the American Cancer Society. Volunteers plan, organize, and promote special events
and other fundraising activities such as memorials, direct mail,
telemarketing and planned giving in their communities.
Volunteer Involvement increases
the role of the volunteers through recruitment, training, and recognition. Volunteers
play a key role in emphasizing the rewarding volunteer experience by recruiting and
training other volunteers and coordinating volunteer recognition activities.
Cancer
Education increases awareness of the importance of self-exams, mammograms, clinical breast
exams, colonoscopy, etc. Trained volunteers educate people about health and teach early detection
methods. |
